Francesca Whetnall

Francesca is a painter and printmaker working with a wide vocabulary of subject matter. After concentrating on watercolour for many years, a course at Bournemouth’s Arts Institute re-ignited her passion for printmaking and at the start of 2012 she left her career in IT to become a full time artist. Inspired by Hockney, Kandinsky and Edward Bawden she creates vibrant linocuts, watercolours and mixed media paintings.

Originally from London, Francesca is now based on the beautiful South Coast. She studied at Wimbledon School of Art in the early 90s and has exhibited work at Bankside gallery in London and at galleries in Bournemouth, Poole, Winchester, Southampton, and Hastings. Francesca is a member of Poole Printmakers and the Red Hot Press in Southampton. Her work is in private collections worldwide.

In 2013 Francesca worked as artist in residence at Pavilion Dance in Bournemouth, working with companies including Jane Mason, Elodie and Sadhana Dance.

Francesca’s love of colour and her graphic, illustrative approach shines through her work, whether the subject is portrait, landscape, still life or something more abstract. She thrives on variety and each new technique or subject benefits from the vibrancy and excitement of the new.
